Prostatitis is inflammation or infection of the prostate and is the most common prostate issue in men under 50, often causing pelvic/genital pain, burning when urinating, and sometimes fever. It can be acute (sudden infection) or chronic and usually needs medical evaluation and sometimes long courses of treatment.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is age‑related enlargement of the prostate and is the most common problem in men over 50, often leading to weak stream, dribbling, and frequent night‑time urination. Although BPH is not cancer, its symptoms can mimic prostate cancer, so proper diagnosis is important.
Prostate cancer becomes more common with age and family history and may cause frequent urination, weak stream, blood in urine or semen, bone pain, or weight loss, although early disease can have no symptoms. Screening and early detection are usually discussed with a doctor based on age and risk factors.
